Loans, My Account, Renewals, Holds & Fines
A borrower card is required to sign out materials, use reserve items in
the library, and access online resources. Your borrower card must be
up-dated each time you take a course at George Brown College, so be sure to
keep your card.
All Borrowers
The Borrower Card
ALL Borrowers are responsible for items signed out on this card. Treat it
like a credit card! Report lost or stolen cards immediately to your Campus
Library since you are liable for any financial liabilities connected to the
use of the card. For further details please refer to:

- The card must be updated each time you take a course, or each semester
- Replacement Photo Student ID card is $12.00 cash (Ryerson/GBC
replacement is $30)
- Replacement Generic Library card (not a smart card - no photo and no
chip) is $6.00 cash, payable at the Circulation/Check-out desk
- Keep the library informed regarding your correct address and telephone
number. We will need this to contact you regarding any holds that you
place.
Functions of the Borrower Card
- A Borrower card is required to
- borrow material from the library
- use reserve material inside the library, for example: reserve items,
videos/DVDs

Library PIN
The Library PIN is required to monitor "My Account" to keep track of
items borrowed, renewals, fines, and placing holds, and also for accessing
online databases using Off Campus Access. Your library
card must first be registered with at the library desk, activating the
library PIN.
Your Library PIN is the last 4 digits of your home
phone.
Check with the library to make sure that your PIN has been activated
before you use it. You can change your library PIN at the library check-out
desk, or by accessing "My Account" and selecting "User PIN change". Link

Full-time Students
| The borrower card for Full-time Students is a
combination
Student Photo-ID and library card. To activate your borrowing
privileges, just register your student ID card in the Library. Remember
to update your card each semester. Student photo ID cards carry a chip
that can be programmed like a debit card for photocopying and printing
in the Library / Learning Commons. For more information link to:

Collaborative Nursing Baccalaureate Students
Students enrolled in the Collaborative Nursing Baccalaureate program are
entitled to borrow from the Ryerson University Library. Link here for

Part-time and Continuing Education Students
| Part-time Students and Continuing Education Students are
issued a Library Borrower card upon request in the library after
presenting a copy of the student registration form. The card is only
valid for the duration of the semester/course indicated on the
registration form, renewable upon presentation of a new registration
form. |

Direct Borrower (Other Colleges)
All George Brown College students are now eligible to borrow library materials from any college library in Ontario. Please be advised that when borrowing from other college libraries that you are subject to all of the terms set by the lending library. Please check with them regarding their borrowing policies before visiting.
Students and staff that are currently enrolled or employed in any college in Ontario are entitled to borrowing privileges at each of George Brown College’s libraries. Students and staff will be required to provide photo identification and proof that they are currently enrolled or employed in a college in Ontario. For students, a receipt or printout from your registration office listing dates of enrollment along with photo ID will be sufficient. For staff, proof of employment such as a current pay stub or contract along with photo ID is required. Upon receiving the above mentioned, documented proof the borrower will be issued a George Brown College library card. Please contact the library if you have any questions:

Ryerson/George Brown Community Health Students
| As a
Ryerson/George Brown student, you will need a Ryerson University
photo-ID card that specifically identifies you as a George Brown College
student on the campus of Ryerson University. You will need this card to
access all Ryerson services, including borrowing from the library and
printing in the Academic Resource Centre. To use the George Brown
College library collections you will need a George Brown College Library
Borrower card. Ryerson charges a replacement fee of $30 for a lost card.

Faculty/Staff/Administration
The Staff ID card
acts as your library card. If you have not been issued with a Staff ID
card a temporary Library Borrower card will be issued upon
request. Your card must be presented for all borrower transactions.
This card and a Library PIN are required for access to resources off campus.
Ask in the library for your library PIN. Faculty/Staff are required to abide by the
General Policies for the Library / Learning Commons . For additional

Alumni
We extend borrowing privileges to Alumni for free. This
includes the library circulating book collection and the use of specially
designated Alumni computer work stations in the library. Alumni are entitled to borrow a maximum of 2 books for the regular 2 week loan period. Due to demand, shorter term loan items, i.e. 1 day, 3 day and 7 day will not be allowed. Alumni are able to use Reference materials, view videos and DVDs, and access most databases (except where licensing prohibits) in the library. Wireless access, Interlibrary loans, Reserve collections, and use of special collections are not included in Alumni Privelges.
The Alumnus must first register with the
Alumni office
where a sticker will be issued to verify Alumni status.
External Borrower
Community, or External Borrowers can utilize our specialized facilities
for an annual fee of $50.
Summer Loans
Students who are in a full time, multi-year program can now continue to borrow during the summer between semesters. Summer borrowers will be restricted to borrowing no more than 2 books at a time for the summer period. Regular fines and lost book fees will apply. The loan periods will also be the same.
